Animated Snow

Learn how to make animated snow

Animated Snow

Step 1

Open an image which you want to add the animated snow to, I'm going to use a christmas tree. Make sure your colours are set to the defaults.

Step 2

Create a new layer, and Edit > Fill #000000. Apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise, amount: 75%, distribution: gaussin, monochromatic: ticked. Now set the layer's blend mode to: Screen.

Step 3

Now apply Filter > Blur > Guassian Blur, radius: 1.3px. Apply levels (Ctrl + L), channel: RGB, input levels: 90, 1.00, 123, output levels: 0, 225.

Step 4

Create a new layer, and Edit > Fill #000000. Apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise, amount: 70%, distribution: gaussin, monochromatic: ticked. Now set the layer's blend mode to: Screen.

Step 5

Now apply Filter > Blur > Guassian Blur, radius: 1.3px. Apply levels (Ctrl + L), channel: RGB, input levels: 90, 1.00, 123, output levels: 0, 225. You could add another couple of snow layers if you wanted to make it more realistic, but for the purpose of this tutorial I have done two snow layers.

Step 6

Edit in ImageReady (Shift + Ctrl + M). Make two frames, one with the first snow layer, the other with the second snow layer showing. Put about a 0.2 second delay on both.
