Kettles – What Would We Do Without Them?

I like to drink tea. Sometimes I like to drink lots of tea. Not just any cup of tea will do, but one which is brewed correctly and boiled properly using the ‘right’ kettle. There are many different types of kettle for sale. The majority of them are probably electric kettles, though you can still boil your water on the hob, if you choose to.

Retro style kettles are quite popular, and they look good in the kitchen. A replica of what used to be in your very own kitchen. These kettles don’t have the clinical, rounded sides that is quite common with electric kettles. It is a matter of preference really and some people might say it does not matter at all. After all, the sole purpose of any kettle is to boil water. That’s all it does.

But it does matter really. I don’t want to use a kettle that does not look attractive, and which does not look too good when you have a look inside the kettle. Due to repeated use, the electric elements of a kettle become discoloured and encrusted in lime scale, and it is not a pretty sight.

Retro type kettles are typically made of stainless steel or some other metallic material. Electric kettles are made, for the most part, from plastic. That’s why you never put one of those on the hob or it will burn.

There are as many different styles and colours of kettle as there are kettles themselves. The consumer, that is you and me, can face a hard choice deciding which one to buy. You can go cheap, or you can pay a lot of money for a kettle. It all depends what you want.

In conclusion, just remember that a kettle is for boiling water, and that is all. How it looks in your kitchen is your choice.
